Take the First Step →Karuna Mental Health is an innovative integrative psychiatry and wellness centre in Byron Bay. We bring together the science of change, rooted in compassion, to support you to thrive.
We combine evidence-based medicine-assisted therapies, personalised psychiatry, clinical psychology, psychotherapy, somatic practices, integrative medicine, gut health, immersive technology, meditation, functional movement, yoga, creative and nature-based therapies, all guided by specialists who believe in treating the whole person.
In Sanskrit and Pali, karuṇā means compassion, the wish to relieve another's suffering. A concept honoured across contemplative traditions, it is the principle every part of our care is built on.
Our approach is personal, rigorous, and held in the extraordinary natural container of Byron Bay, offering new models of care unique to the Australian ecosystem.
"Healing is not the suppression of symptoms. We help address what is needed to allow for the restoration of wholeness across body, mind, and spirit."
We actively advance the field through systematic outcome tracking, structured psychometric data and pragmatic research trials. With the intention to improve systems of healing for all.
Pioneering novel, medicine-assisted modalities delivered under rigorous Australian regulatory frameworks and psychiatrist-led governance. So hope is never limited to what used to be possible.
Built with trauma-informed care at the core, we combine comprehensive assessments and integration with skilled clinicians in a restorative environment. Creating a place where your nervous system can rest.
Every protocol we deliver is grounded in current clinical research and the modern neuroscience of neuroplasticity and healing. So your care rests on solid ground.
We combine clinical excellence with medicine-assisted therapies that treat the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

It starts with a free Anchoring Call: a short conversation to map what may suit you, with nothing decided on the call.
Karuna is not a crisis service. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 000. For 24/7 support: Lifeline 13 11 14 · Beyond Blue 1300 22 46 36
